It’s pretty amazing – when I asked a few of my friends where their ideal vacation would be, they all simultaneously said attractions like “Hawaii” or “Dominican Republic”. There’s almost a “list” of potential places to go on vacation to. Instead of exploring new and exotic locations, it’s the standard list that people choose to go by. Although the cities and countries in that list are all amazing places to visit, there is one destination that is not receiving the attention I think it deserves. That’s a little country called Cuba. Now – it’s important to state here that US Citizens can’t visit Cuba or take any kind of Cuba vacation. However, it’s still an amazing tourist spot that not many people know about. Luckily, I’m here to shed some light on it! Here’s a little blurb about the main sights to see in Cuba.
Start off by going to the closest Plaza de la Revolucion (or Revolution Square). It’s a place filled with a plethora of history and value to the locals. Why? Well, people like Fidel Castro gave speeches to millions of Cubans in that very spot. On first sight, it looks nothing more than an empty piece of land. However, when filled up, it was the home to some very important political rallies. It’s worth visiting for sure.
Another very interesting place to visit is the Museum of Piracy. It has information about actual pirates of the Caribbean (nope, not the movie) and how they roamed the seas preying on ships. Although it’s definitely a dark part of Cuba’s history, it’s important to understand how the city has evolved over time. The city was even attacked at one point in time by these pirates, so it’s pretty cool to understand the history behind everything you’re witnessing.
If you’re a museum fanatic (like I am) then visiting the Bellas Artes Museum is definitely important. It’s the centrifuge of Cuban history along with artifacts from Ancient Rome and Greece. Your visit to Cuba wouldn’t be complete without a dose of culture – touring this museum will definitely deliver the shot of culture you need! (just a side note – some Cuba vacation packages offer guided tours of these attractions, so be sure to do your research before proceeding on the vacation planning!)
These three attractions should just be the beginning of your trip to Cuba. There are so many other culturally significant landmarks that deserve your attention, so make sure that you do sufficient research and planning of where to go and what to see before your trip commences. It’s completely possible to have the time of your life if you take proactive behavior and plan every step of the way out!
